Calvary’s Children’s Ministry is designed to ensure that kids enjoy a creative, relevant, Bible-centric, relational and engaging experience every Sunday morning.
17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Our goal and prayer for Children’s Ministry at Calvary is this—that each child would be deeply rooted in God and that they would intimately know and experience how long, how high and how deep the Father’s love is for them. With these verses in mind, we have created a program that shares the same pursuits as the whole Calvary community. We want to give our kids opportunity to:
- Pursue God Passionately
- Explore Creativity
- Celebrate Transformation
- Build Authentic Community
- Influence Our World
We believe it is important for Children’s Ministry to be:
- Learner-based: We incorporate different activities to engage children of all ages and learning styles.
- Experiential: We believe that kids grow in their own personal relationship with Jesus when they are able to engage (physical, emotionally, creatively) with what they are learning.
- Relational: As they walk through our program, the children belong to mixed-age “crews” which are led by leaders from a variety of different generations within our church body.
- Passion-led: We have designed our volunteer roles to reflect our volunteers' giftings and enable them to share their passions with our kids.

Ages 0 – 2½
Our nursery is located in the basement of Calvary and our volunteers love to play and entertain our littlest church members. Open from approx. 10:30-11:30 AM, our nursery provides a safe space for parents to drop off their infants and young babies during the teaching time. This allows our youngest members to move around, interact with each other and build relationships with other youth and adults in the church community.
Ages 2½ – 4½
Our orange crew is designed as a transition class for kids who are moving out of the nursery and into Kidzchurch. It is located in a classroom in the basement of Calvary, right off of the main Kidzchurch area.
Once the kids are dismissed from the upstairs worship time (~10:30) parents can take their kids to the orange crew room and sign them in. They engage in free play until the Kidzchurch worship time at which point they join in with the older kids to worship Jesus through fun songs and dance. After worship they head back to their room to learn about Jesus through games, sensory-activities and stories. Parents can pick up their kids from the orange crew room at the end of the teaching time upstairs (approx. 11:30am).
Ages 4½ – Grade 6
Our Kidzchurch program is designed for kids aged 4½ to grade six. It is located in the main room downstairs in the basement.
Kidzchurch Morning Routine
(times are approximate and subject to change)
9:50-10:10am – Sign-in: When families arrive at church, parents are asked to sign their kids in at our Kidzchurch booth in the foyer, collect a name tag with their crew colour, and then join the church body in the sanctuary for a corporate time of worship.
10:30-10:40 am – Crew Connecting Time: Upon being dismissed from corporate worship upstairs, the kids come downstairs where they join their crew. Our crew leaders have coloured t-shirts so that the kids can find their leader easily. They will spend this time building relationships with their peers and our volunteers through crew activities and questions.
10:40-11:05am – Open Session: This is a time for the whole group to come together for a dynamic worship and teaching time.
• Worship (10 mins)
• Storytelling time (10-15 mins)
11:05-11:25am – Centre Response Time: During centre time, the crews explore different ways to connect to Jesus and express our faith. It is our aim to engage children of all different learning styles and give them the opportunity to explore the current Bible story or discipleship topic and its application to their life.
11:25-11:30am – Wrap-up & Prayer
11:30 am – End of Service: Parents come and sign out their children.
